Rendering of Bragg Creek core
On October 3, 2016, McElhanney was honoured with an Award of Planning Merit in the Design Plan category for the Bragg Creek Revitalization Plan by the Alberta Professional Planners Institute (APPI). The award was presented to McElhanney and our project partners, MVH Urban Planning & Design Inc. and Rocky View County, at the annual APPI conference in Jasper National Park.
Bragg Creek Revitalization Project
Devastated by the Southern Alberta summer 2013 flood, community members and business owners were still struggling two years later to rebuild the charming tourist Hamlet of Bragg Creek due to a lack of vision and coordination amongst the various stakeholders. The purpose of the Revitalization Plan was to clearly outline an action plan for community growth and renewal and revive Bragg Creek as a place to live, work, visit, and recreate.
McElhanney began work in January 2015 and immediately recognized that there was deep divide and hesitation amongst the community as to the direction of the plan. Our team engaged extensively with the community to develop a workable plan that outlined financial development opportunities, necessary bylaw and policy amendments, and future land use needs.
Unanimously approved by the County in December 2015, the Revitalization Plan clearly defined the rebuilding process forward.
