  • Compensation & Benefits

    Competitive Salary: McElhanney provides industry-competitive salaries for all of our positions. We conduct annual salary reviews and research published industry salary reports to ensure we offer market competitive rates.

    Overtime Compensation Unlike other engineering firms, McElhanney provides overtime pay for most professional roles.

    Shareholder Plan: Become part of the company – literally. McElhanney is 100% employee-owned and operated, and we are proud to offer shares to qualifying employees.

    Bonus Plan: When we grow, you grow. We recognize that people are the key to our long-term success, and developed the Bonus Plan to give you the opportunity to directly share in the Company’s success.

  • Retirement & Savings Plans

    Group RRSP Savings Plan: As part of our employment package, McElhanney offers an RRSP group savings program. The plan provides you with an opportunity to save for your retirement while reducing your current taxes. You can choose from a variety of registered investment funds to build your own portfolio, and contribute through payroll deductions. To further grow your savings, McElhanney will match contributions on your behalf.

    Tax Free Savings Account: Take advantage of tax-free savings growth, and invest in our Tax-Free Savings Account.

  • Insurance

    Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment: Group Life Insurance and Basic AD&D is available for eligible employees. 

    Short & Long Term Disability Coverage: McElhanney provides up to 180 days of Short Term Disability for eligible employees. If you become totally disabled while insured and qualify for Long Term Disability, you will receive a disability benefit equaling 60% of your monthly earnings, to a maximum of $10,000.

    Optional Additional Coverage: For additional coverage, McElhanney offers Optional Life Insurance and Optional Critical Illness Insurance (available for employee, spouse and children), and Voluntary AD&D for employees and families.

  • Health & Wellness

    Provincial Medical: Premium costs for your family’s provincial health insurance coverage are shared with the company.

    Extended Health: Premium costs of coverage are shared with the company. We offer the following benefits:

    • Prescription drugs: 80% coverage for prescription drugs
    • Vision Care: Prescription glasses or contact lenses, repairs, elective laser vision correction to a maximum of $250 during any 24 months, and an annual eye exam.
    • Professional services: 80% of the cost of chiropractor, osteopath, podiatrist, massage therapist, naturopath, speech therapist, psychologist and physiotherapist appointments up to a combined maximum of $1,100 per calendar year.
    • Hospital Care, including the cost of a private room.
    • Medical services and supplies: private duty nursing, ambulance, medical equipment, non-dental prosthesis, supports and hearing aids, and out-of-province/out-of-Canada claims.
    • Out-of-province/country Emergency Travel Assistance up to $1,000,000
    • Survivor Extended Benefit. If you die while your dependents are insured under this program, your Extended Health and Dental Care benefits will continue without payment of premiums for a specified period.
    • Drug Card: Our pay-direct drug card is a fast and easy way to instantly cover eligible prescription drugs without completing claim forms or waiting for reimbursements.
    • Fast reimbursement: our online claim system ensures fast and easy processing.

    Dental Care: McElhanney covers dental expenses for employees and their dependents up to $1,500 per person, per calendar year, including:

    • Basic services: 100%
    • Dentures and major restorative services: 50%
    • Orthodontics: 50% up to a lifetime maximum of $1,500

    Health Care Spending Account: Beyond our standard benefits package, McElhanney offers a Health Care Spending Account. This Account provides you with additional funds to cover unexpected health or dental expenses, or to pay amounts the Benefit Plan does not cover. Each employee receives $200 annually in their HSCA account for qualifying expenses.

    Health & Wellness: McElhanney supports the health and well-being of all of our employees. The McElhanney Wellness Initiative is designed to provide access to resources to influence healthy lifestyle choices.

    Employee Assistance Program (EAP): The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides employees and their families enrolled in health benefits with confidential counseling and information. You can access this 24-hour free service without questions regarding:

    • Childcare
    • Workplace stress
    • Health information
    • Financial information
    • Individual counseling
    • Eldercare
    • Substance abuse
    • Legal information
    • Family counseling
    • Couples counseling

    To maintain your privacy, this program is offered by an independent EAP provider. The service provider ensures that no one within McElhanney has access to your information or service requests.

    Reimbursement of Professional Dues: McElhanney will reimburse annual dues for employees who belong to a qualifying professional organization that enhances their career.

    Safety Program: Your safety is our concern. McElhanney provides a safe work environment, a comprehensive Safety Program and safety training.

    Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Allowance: Your safety is our concern. To assist in ensuring that you have the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) you require and to help offset the cost of your PPE, McElhanney offers an allowance on select PPE items, including safety boots and ATV/snowmobile helmets.
