Vertical Mapper
Vertical Mapper adds 3D visualization capabilities to MapInfo Professional .

Using point data from MapInfo Professional as input, you can create a regularly-spaced grid in Vertical Mapper. Once a grid is created, you can shade the grid, generate contours, or apply mathematical operations to a grid.

Vertical Mapper Version 3.0 supports five interpolation techniques based on commonly used estimation principles:

  • Kriging
  • Triangular Irregular Network (TIN)
  • Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW)
  • Natural Neighbour
  • Rectangular or Bilinear
Some functions you can apply to your gridded data are:
  • Overlaying one grid on another and applying a mathematical function (e.g. Subtract one grid with elevations from one data to a grid of the same area after land has been removed to come up with the volume of soil removed)
  • Calculate steepness of slope or the direction the slopes are facing in a grid
  • Show cross-sections (e.g. What is the shape of the terrain from point A to point B?)
  • 3D perspective view of the terrain with optional overlay of imagery (e.g. Airphoto or satellite image)
  • Natural Neighbour (Voroni) analysis (Gridding based on categorical data, e.g. soil types)
  • Location profiler (Calculate the distance from all points in the grid to one or more locations specified by you. Used, for example, to identify customer locations, areas of high crime)

New Features

  • Predictive Analysis Tool - The Predictive Analysis tool will automatically identify areas with statistically similar attributes based on a user-defined test location. For example, the tool can suggest the best locations for additional retail outlets from the selection of an existing high-volume location.
  • Point Density - Users are given two methods to derive point density, either by square area or kernel smoothing, which indicates the probability of an event recurring in an area.
  • Correlation Tool - Users can determine relationships between data sets and view the results in tables. This can help users select representative data sets for quicker analysis. Three different options are offered:
    • Correlation matrix will display the statistical relationship between input grids
    • Grouper function will group statistically similar grids
    • Principle Component Analysis provides analysis of the variance between all grids
  • Custom Point Estimation - Users can specify the calculation to be executed on a set of points within a specified radius. The user may select from the following types of calculations:
    • Sum of Values
    • Minimum Value
    • Maximum Value
    • Average Value
    • Count of Data Points
  • GRC Reclass - GRC Reclass allows users to modify the class structure of a .GRC file, such as changing class names or merging classes with similar characteristics.
