Pope Pit Slope Recontouring and Development

McElhanney’s key task on this pit development project was to recontour the pit slopes, as previous development had left steepened and unsafe pit walls as much as forty metres high.

A further challenge was maintaining access to forestry cut blocks via a road traversing the pit and the crest, including some of the unsafe slopes. A pit development plan, with a 3-D rendition of the final pit, was required for the remaining aggregate resources.

McElhanney provided project management, GPS mapping, road access realignment, and subcontractor hire and supervision in addition to producing the pit development plan.
