MapInfo Professional and the geological extension, ENCOM Discover, is a widely used GIS package for mining companies around the world. Geologists need to learn how to use these software programs quickly as many geologists take their laptops into the field. They need to know how to produce maps, and how to bring in aerial images, maps and field notes.
