Nimpkish River Bank Stabilization
Client: Ministry of Transportation
An existing bank failure problem in the Nimpkish River was made distinctly worse by heavy rains in November 2006. Combining senior scientific expertise in river engineering with the ability to coordinate approvals through Fisheries and Oceans Canada, McElhanney began work on the project.
McElhanney conducted riverine and topographic surveys and provided the required riprap sizing for the toe-berm. We also provided the consulting and biological services required to provide effective erosion control, completing soil restoration work and revegetating the exposed slopes. The Nimpkish River Slope Remediation works were monitored for one year and a final written report was issued to Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and the provincial Ministries of Environment and Transportation.
