Sarcee Trail Corridor Study
Client: The City of Calgary
This project includes functional planning and concept development for new interchanges between the Trans Canada Highway (Highway 1) and Glenmore Trail (Highway 8). Sarcee Trail intersects Bow Trail, 17 Avenue and Richmond Road and our team is developing interchange concepts to accommodate both the 2020 horizon year and Long Range Scenario (LRS) traffic volumes (+25 year horizon).
This project provided numerous interesting challenges for our employees. The LRS traffic demand assumes the South West Calgary Ring Road is built and operational. This assumption draws traffic away from Sarcee Trail for some movements and significantly adds traffic to other interchange movements. Our team's concepts accommodate the future construction while still providing an intuitive and logical operation in the interim.
Synchro and Vissim simulation models were run for both the 2020 and LRS horizon years and the resulting output was used to guide the interchange development for the subject intersections.
