ArcGIS Conversion and Training

Client: PT Weda Bay Nickel, Indonesia

Weda Bay Nickel on Halmahera Island, Indonesia, has vast stores of mapping data for their exploration area, but did not have the data in a structure that would make it easily accessible by the different departments and for people with different levels of GIS skills.

McElhanney created a specialized integrated data management system to manage the non-spatial datasets, satellite images, and GIS and CAD vector data necessary for the startup of the mine. Once the ArcGIS system was built, McElhanney fully trained Weda Bay’s employees on how to use it.

Highlights of project:

  • Reviewing data for inclusion in the ArcGIS databases
  • Designing new geodatabase structures and loading the existing data
  • Documenting procedures for updating and managing the geodatabases and managing workflow within the clients' departments
  • Training client employees, including engineers, geologists and environmental specialists in the use of the ArcGIS system

McElhanney successfully provided their client with a solid foundation, from which they could design and manage their own project.
