The Sea to Sky Highway Improvement Project Legal Survey

Client: BC Ministry of Transportation

As part of the Sea to Sky improvement project, the Ministry contracted McElhanney to survey a section of the new highway alignment for fee simple and statutory right of way acquisition over 3.5 km of both private and crown land parcels from the Eagle Ridge overpass to Ansell Place, north of Horseshoe Bay.

The highway section bordered on a provincial park and crossed District Lot, Parcel, and Right of Way boundaries. During the course of the survey :

  • we searched for and updated original monumentation (some dating from the 1800's) and ancillary evidence at primary parcel corners in tough mountainous terrain;
  • placed type one, two and four monuments for the block outline survey, and;
  • searched additional right of way, lot corners and highway plan monumentation based on older survey plans.

Due to the complexity of boundaries involved in this project, a dense control network was developed in order to complete all of the legal ties and control monument placement required.
