Satellite Imagery

The selection and availability of high resolution satellite imagery today provides an affordable database for applications such as:
  • Mineral exploration
  • Forest management
  • Agricultural monitoring
  • Crop forecasting
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Land Use Management
  • Disaster planning

McElhanney are licensed distributors of optical and radar satellite imagery. Optical satellite imagery is used for applications which require interpretation based on the colour, or spectral reflectance, of features from different parts of the electromagnetic spectrum. Some examples are natural colour images for urban maps and colour infrared images for detecting insect infestation in trees. Radar satellite imagery is used for areas with constant cloud cover, fog or haze, or require near-real time images for disasters such as forest fires and oil spills. Some of the factors to consider when selecting satellite imagery are listed in the tables below. Let us use our expertise to help you select the appropriate image for your needs.

New McElhanney now distributes high-resolution SPOT-5 and EROS satellite imagery.

EROS 1A is the first high resolution satellite by ImageSat International. EROS 1A provides ground resolutions of 1.0 or 1.8m. EROS 1A satellite imagery provides users with detailed, aerial photographic quality images, and at the same time, the price, coverage, and accessibility of satellite imagery. The EROS 1A satellite can also image in stereo for detailed mapping work. McElhanney distributes EROS 1A satellite imagery in North America. Price for a standard scene is US $1500 (covering 12.5 x 12.5 km at a ground resolution of 1.8m), plus shipping and taxes.

Example uses for EROS Imagery:

  • The exploration geologist that needs a highly detailed image for a project area that has no air photo coverage.
  • The cartographer that needs to produce a high resolution Digital Elevation Model (DEM).
  • The natural resource manager that needs to update, or increase the detail in vegetation or topography for Provincial/State government maps.
  • Provincial/State or federal government emergency preparedness mapping for forest fire, floods or other natural disasters.
