Scholarship Overview

In recognition of the exemplary contributions of people who identify as women at McElhanney, this scholarship is designed to inspire and celebrate future leaders in Geomatics and Geospatial disciplines while upholding our unwavering commitment to creating opportunities where women have equal opportunity to grow their careers. The ideal candidate identifies as a woman, strives to be an ally for women, and has demonstrated strong leadership within their community. Additionally, the ideal candidate is currently enrolled in an accredited diploma, baccalaureate, or graduate program in Geomatics or Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and / or Remote Sensing-related programs and has a passion for a career in a Geomatics or Geospatial discipline that applies to McElhanney.

We welcome applications from students who identify as women of all backgrounds, including but not limited to Indigenous Peoples, racialized groups, persons with disabilities, members of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, and other equity-deserving groups.

The selected recipient, currently enrolled in an education program, will receive up to $5,000 to help cover tuition, textbooks, supplies, and living expenses (including on-campus housing), along with a direct internship opportunity.

Candidates are also encouraged to apply for opportunities to join McElhanney as an intern or new graduate during our regular recruitment cycles (winter, summer, and fall), which will be advertised on McElhanney’s website and via most post-secondary institutions’ communications.

Step 1: Select Your Career Path

Hands-on career training will be made available through full-time or intern opportunities, which are reserved for individuals who have an interest in one or more of the following career paths. In your application, please select your career path of interest. If you have more than one career path of interest, please rank them from most interested to least.

Geomatics Engineering / Diploma
(Surveying / Mapping)

Geospatial
(GIS & Remote Sensing)

The career path you select should align with the current education program you are enrolled in.

Step 2: Confirm Your Eligibility

To qualify for this scholarship, please ensure you meet the following criteria:
  1. You have a passion for advancing and promoting women and strive for equity in your respective community.
  2. You have displayed a high-level of resilience, determination, and creativity in overcoming any challenge.
  3. You are enrolled in a diploma or degree program and have completed at least 2 years of post-secondary education at an accredited Canadian institution that is in one of the mentioned career paths.
  4. You are seeking a co-op / internship opportunity while completing an education program in the mentioned disciplines (see applicable programs above).

Step 3: Application Instructions

A complete application must be submitted on or before November 2nd, 2025, and include the following documents to receive consideration:

  1. A resume that summarizes your experience. 
  2. A cover letter including a personal statement of 1-2 pages that addresses the following questions:
    • What challenges have you faced as a woman pursuing a career within your current field of education, and how did you overcome these challenges that impacted your academic and personal experiences?
    • Why should you be selected as the recipient of this scholarship?
    • How would this scholarship support your career plans?

When answering these questions, you may wish to consider how your studies or future work in STEM will contribute to the advancement of women in the industry, and/or provide us with any other information you feel elevates your qualities as a candidate.

Financial Support:

This scholarship offers up to $5,000 for tuition, textbooks, supplies, and living expenses (on-campus accommodations).

Industry Mentorship Opportunity:

Be paired with a McElhanney industry professional who will support you in achieving your professional goals. Together, you will discuss training, coaching, or career aspirations of interest to you.

Co-op Opportunity

Internship Opportunity:

You will be awarded a paid internship that aligns with your career plans and McElhanney’s hiring needs. All scholarship applicants will be considered for current and upcoming McElhanney career opportunities.
