Highway 263

2015-2016 | Prince Albert National Park, SK

Highway 263 within the limits of Prince Albert National Park is a scenic parkway, rich with wildlife and access points for hiking, camping, canoeing, snowshoeing, and many other outdoors activities. The highway also services the resort town of Waskesiu, located on Waskesiu Lake. Waskesiu means “Red Deer” or elk in the Cree language, and there are plenty of elk roaming around the park!

With years of use, and limited budget for maintenance, Highway 263 required rehabilitation, as well as safety assessments and upgrades to meet the needs of Parks Canada and enhance the Visitor Experience to the Park.

Being in a National Park, Environmental impacts were of the utmost concern, so special consideration must be taken for many aspects of the work.

McElhanney was retained by Parks Canada Agency to provide the following services: roadway and surfacing design; geotechnical and materials testing; drainage review and design; utility coordination; integration of bridges, lighting, signing; construction administration; road safety audits and upgrades; and surveying.
