Alaska Highway Structural Inspection and Evaluation Services

2024-Ongoing | Various locations along the Alaska Highway, British Columbia

McElhanney is providing structural inspection, evaluation, and testing services over two years for 24 bridges and 33 bridge-culverts under Public Services and Procurement Canada’s jurisdiction along the Alaska Highway. The inventory includes a wide range of structures, from small corrugated steel pipe culverts and girder bridges to complex crossings such as suspension, spandrel arch, deck truss, and steel through truss bridges.

The work includes pre-field planning, detailed and general inspections, fatigue inspections, non-destructive testing, enhanced general inspections, special component inspections, and structural evaluations, along with associated reporting. The 2024 program required specialized access including snooper truck inspections, drone inspections, traffic control, confined space entry, and stand-by rescue. In addition to fieldwork, McElhanney is delivering detailed live load evaluations for 17 bridges, including primary and secondary elements such as gusset plates on truss structures.

McElhanney provided:

  • Pre-field planning and coordination for multi-phase inspection and evaluation work
  • Detailed, general, fatigue, and enhanced inspections, plus non-destructive testing and special component inspections
  • Specialized access coordination including snooper truck inspections, drone inspections, traffic control, confined space entry, and stand-by rescue
  • Structural evaluations and detailed live load analysis for 17 bridges, including primary and secondary elements
