Fortune Creek Reservoirs

2023-2024 | Armstrong, BC

The City of Armstrong provides treated water to approximately 5,000 residents, as well as close to 1,000 residents in the surrounding areas within the Township of Spallumcheen. The City faced insufficient water storage capacity and the risk of being unable to provide adequate fire flow protection in the face of a major fire event. To increase capacity, the City decided to add a concrete potable water reservoir adjacent to their current reservoirs near Fortune Creek.

In 2023, McElhanney was engaged to provide engineering and survey services to support the detailed design of additional concrete potable water reservoirs. Team members across McElhanney came together, along with the City’s geotechnical consultant, to produce the detailed design. The team was challenged to site the reservoir in the existing available space while both maintaining the same water level as the other reservoirs on site and preserving the environmental area along the bank of Fortune Creek. The project team proactively engaged environmental team members during the design process to reduce impact on the surrounding area.
