Kinosoo Beach Enhancement Project

2013-2018 | Cold Lake, AB

In 2014 the City of Cold Lake adopted the Kinosoo Beach Master Plan, which McElhanney planners helped the City to create. The project engaged citizens of all ages in the enhancement of one of Cold Lake’s best destinations. The intent of the Master Plan is to create a vision for a world-class park for the growing community that honours its roots, celebrates present-day achievements, and creates a meaningful space that will continue to be a vibrant part of the life of the city in the future.

To date, the City has funded two phases of implementation of the Kinosoo Beach Master Plan. For these, McElhanney provided landscape architecture and civil engineering services.  Phase 1 was completed in 2015 and included a spray park with walking paths connecting to the beach and to the beach entrance. Phase 2 was substantially completed by September 1, 2017 and included: expanded green space, a multi-purpose play court system, beach volleyball courts, a band stand, a wooden promenade, a zip line, a new playground, and an upgraded storm system.

In 2018, the Kinosoo Beach Enhancement Project was awarded “Project of the Year” in the $1M to $5M category by the Alberta Public Works Association. McElhanney and the City of Cold Lake were acknowledged for their contributions.
