Kinbrook Connection Pathway Partnership

2022 – ongoing | County of Newell, AB

The residents of the City of Brooks and the County of Newell (the County), Alberta, had long imagined a pathway connecting their city and county with the picturesque Lake Newell and Kinbrook Provincial Park. In 2021, the momentum needed to make this vision a reality came together as the Eastern Irrigation District provided an endorsement for the necessary lands allowing for the Kinbrook Connection Pathway to begin.

The Kinbrook Connection Pathway is an active transportation trail that will stretch just over twelve kilometers. The pathway will feature lake views, grasslands and prairies, a pedestrian bridge, and shorebird habitats. McElhanney’s work with similar projects, including the Badlands Parkway in Grasslands National Park, motivated the County to engage McElhanney to move the Kinbrook Connection Pathway project forward.

Throughout the project, experts from services across McElhanney were engaged. From landscape architecture to environmental services, multiple divisions contributed team members to the Kinbrook Connection Pathway project.
