Summit Drive Pedestrian Bridge

The City of Kamloops is exploring a proposed multi-use pedestrian overpass on Summit Drive at the on-ramp from Thompson Rivers University (TRU). Building on McElhanney and VIA Architecture’s 2022 concept work, the assignment focuses on developing and evaluating additional bridge concepts at the north crossing location that can be delivered within the City’s $10 million total project budget.
McElhanney is working with Donald MacDonald Bridge Architects and Chandos Construction to develop four distinct concepts, refine two preferred options, and prepare 30% structural design information, preliminary visualizations, photorealistic renderings, and Class C cost estimates. The work supports informed decision-making by comparing concept options against key objectives such as construction cost, constructability, risk, maintenance and operations, aesthetic impact, user experience, active transportation connectivity, and universal access benefits.
McElhanney provided:
- Conceptual bridge design and option development

- 2D and 3D concept sketches with advantages and disadvantages
- Preliminary visualizations and photorealistic renderings
- 30% structural design, general arrangement drawings, and schedule of quantities
- Class C cost estimating and constructability input
