McElhanney’s Pia Abercromby Receives an Engineers and Geoscientists BC Young Professional Award

Kudos are in order! Our own Pia Abercromby, Sustainability Services Advisory Group Manager, was recently honoured with the 2023 Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) Young Professional Award.

These awards recognize candidates who have made significant professional and technical achievements in the fields of engineering and geoscience, and have demonstrated substantial volunteer service. Pia’s nomination told the story of her 12-year career, spanning her path from being a newly minted bridge engineer to becoming an emerging leader: not only at McElhanney, but in the consulting engineering industry as a whole.

Pia’s strong resume of professional and technical achievements—paired with her passion for mentorship and leading projects, coworkers, and clients toward a more sustainable, community-focused future—made her an ideal candidate.

“Being awarded the EGBC Young Professional Award is a humbling experience,” Pia says. “This recognition reaffirms the importance of sustainability in the work that engineers and geoscientists undertake, and I am excited to see how our industry progresses in this area.”

Our Executive Vice President of Vancouver Region Engineering, Santino Pirillo, also spoke in support of Pia’s achievements: “A natural born leader and innovative problem-solver, Pia strongly advocates for sustainability in everything she does. Her tireless volunteerism, technical excellence, and dedication to maintaining public safety and well-being are commendable. Pia’s contributions go above and beyond what is expected of her—she truly cares for the people and communities she works in. Pia is incredibly well-deserving of this award.”

Pia works out of our Vancouver, BC branch as Sustainability Services Advisory Group Manager. She has played an integral role in creating and implementing McElhanney’s Sustainability Strategy, focusing on supporting clients in their own sustainability journeys through advisory, climate change, and asset management services.

Congratulations on your tremendous accomplishment, Pia!
