In 2024, McElhanney and Tahltan-member-owned Dease Valley Industries Ltd. (DVI) entered a Cooperation Agreement. Six months later, both parties agreed that it was appropriate to establish a Joint Venture. Today, DVI/McElhanney Joint Venture is delivering services relating to major infrastructure projects on the lands on the north side of Treaty Creek in the Tahltan Territory.
Building Trust Through Partnership
DVI recognized McElhanney as a viable partner not only because of McElhanney’s breadth of services, but also because of shared connections working in Indigenous Relations. McElhanney environmental scientist and project manager, Tyler Garden, says that today’s success is grounded in the relationship’s path to partnership; “The Cooperation Agreement was a good launching pad, and helped us build trust. It allowed for organic growth in the relationship and built a strong foundation of understanding everyone’s values.”
The Cooperation Agreement will exist in tandem with the Joint Venture until projects run through the Cooperation Agreement have reached completion.
As major projects progress, DVI expects McElhanney to prioritize recruiting, training, and retaining qualified Tahltan Nation members to fill jobs for operations in the lands on the north side of Treaty Creek in the Tahltan Territory.
