The future is calling – and McElhanney is ready to answer.
In a recent feature with The CEO Magazine, Jennifer Price, our President & CEO, discussed the critical role that engineering plays in addressing the world’s most pressing challenges – from climate change and resilience to aging infrastructure. With a leadership style grounded in transparency and collaboration, Jennifer is guiding McElhanney through a period of transformation: one shaped by innovation, inclusion, and sustainability.
Purpose-Driven Leadership
For Jennifer, engineering has always been about more than just problem-solving; it’s about creating solutions that meaningfully address the complex issues facing communities today.
“I went into engineering because I wanted to make the world a better place,” she shared. “If you look at a lot of the most critical problems the world is facing, engineers have the opportunity to have some impact on some of the societal challenges that we face.”
This sense of purpose extends to Jennifer’s leadership philosophy. Having witnessed firsthand the challenges her mother and other women faced as professionals, Jennifer is committed to fostering a workplace that prioritizes collaboration and inclusivity. She strives to create an environment where team members – at every level of their careers and across all disciplines and locations – feel empowered to contribute toward shared goals.
“One of the most important things for me is to really develop and empower my team,” she added.
Tackling Today’s Challenges
Jennifer and our teams are focused on the future and the infrastructure that supports it. As communities face the dual pressures of aging systems and environmental uncertainty, we’re using tools like advanced modeling, real-time data, and geospatial technology to help the people who shape the places we call home plan smarter and adapt faster. McElhanney is also addressing sustainability and climate resilience, particularly through initiatives like flood mapping, drone technology, and autonomous vessels for hydrographic surveys.
“We’re using everything from flood mapping to drones for climate resilience, ensuring that we’re prepared for the challenges ahead,” Jennifer explained.
Embracing What’s Next
Looking ahead, Price sees a rapidly changing industry driven by digital transformation and energy transition. McElhanney is embracing new technologies – such as AI-supported analysis and smart systems – while also expanding our reach to stay ahead of these shifts.
“We are evolving with the industry, embracing new technologies, and continuing to expand beyond our traditional geographic footprint,” Price said.
For Jennifer, leading McElhanney means balancing progress with purpose. As we navigate shifts in technology, climate, and community needs, her focus remains steady: equipping our teams to adapt, staying curious about what’s possible, and making space for more voices to shape the future of our industry.
