The McElhanney Cares Tournament returned to Kelowna this May, bringing together teams from across the company, industry partners, and community members for a full weekend of sports, fundraising, and connection.

This year marked the largest and most successful tournament to date, raising $174,000 for Ronald McDonald House BC & Yukon, surpassing the fundraising goal and setting a new record for the event. 100% of the proceeds went directly toward supporting families staying at the Ronald McDonald House.

“We’re incredibly proud of what this community has achieved,” said Jennifer Price, CEO & President of McElhanney. “This tournament reflects what’s possible when our people and partners come together in support of something bigger than ourselves.”

Soccer, hockey, and for the first time, slo-pitch ran side by side throughout the weekend, creating more opportunities for people to get involved. The tournament kicked off at MNP Place and Mission Sports Field on Friday, May 29th and wrapped up on Saturday, May 30th

In total, approximately 575 participants took part across 41 teams, including six McElhanney teams. A total of 70 McElhanney employees from 22 locations across Western Canada participated, contributing to the strong turnout and energy throughout the weekend.

Through teamwork, friendly competition, and a shared commitment to giving back, the funds raised will help provide approximately 700 nights of comfort for families staying at Ronald McDonald House BC & Yukon, allowing them to stay close to their child.

“The McElhanney Cares Tournament is a remarkable example of the generosity and community spirit that defines the Okanagan,” said Richard Pass, CEO of Ronald McDonald House BC & Yukon. “This year’s record-breaking fundraising result, along with the addition of slo-pitch, reflects the passion and creativity of everyone involved. We are incredibly grateful for this long-standing event and its commitment to helping families stay close to care. Families from the Interior make up approximately 33% of those who stay at Ronald McDonald House BC & Yukon each year, meaning these funds directly support local families who must travel for their child’s medical treatment.”

When a child requires medical care away from home, families are often faced with difficult decisions about where to stay and how to remain together. Ronald McDonald House BC & Yukon helps ease that burden by providing a home away from home, offering families a supportive place to stay close to the hospital and their child’s care.

The tournament is part of McElhanney Cares, McElhanney’s corporate giving program, which supports community organizations through donations, volunteer efforts, and employee-led initiatives.
