High River Lift Station Upgrades
The budget-friendly re-design included a much-needed new bypass around the lift station for emergency or other temporary use. Through intricate design, the team managed to tie it in with existing, unused infrastructure to save the Town added expense.
Kinosoo Beach Enhancement Project
In 2014 the City of Cold Lake adopted the Kinosoo Beach Master Plan, which McElhanney planners helped the City to create. The project engaged citizens of all ages in the enhancement of one of Cold Lake’s best destinations.
Banff Upper Hot Springs
McElhanney created the Banff Upper Hot Springs 3D model using laser scanned data. This Virtual experience brings in weather and vegetation. Users can move around the historical site allowing them to view it in detail. This 3D model will provide our team with important details to support the project.
Town of High River New Land Use Bylaw
High River, AB – The Town of High River, Alberta, had an outdated set of bylaws which dated back to 1980. McElhanney was retained to re-write the Town’s Land Use Bylaw based entirely on walkability; the first of its find in Alberta.
Parks Canada Emergency Response
Since 2008, McElhanney has completed over 300 assignments for Parks Canada. This includes emergency response services for major floods in Banff, Jasper, and Kootenay National Parks in 2012 and 2013, as well as avalanche cleanup in Banff National Park in 2017.
Southwest Calgary Ring Road
Calgary, AB – The Government of Alberta and the City of Calgary began planning for the Calgary Ring Road in the 1970s. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the province purchased most of the land needed for the transportation utility corridor around Calgary where the ring road would be built. The northwest, northeast, and southeast sections are now in operation – known collectively as Stoney Trail – and motorists now have 70km of free-flow travel.
Parks Canada Campground Concepts & Design Manual
The Parks Canada Campground manual forms the foundation for developmental standard and design guides for existing and new campgrounds. With the original manual created in 1972 and last updated in 1992, Parks Canada needed a new edition for modern visitors. McElhanney was given the opportunity to update and develop the manual to guide the renewal of campgrounds and associated facilities throughout Canada’s national parks.
